Calcium and magnesium are two of the most physiologically interdependent minerals in the human body. Why citrate form?
Mineral citrate salts are organic acid-bound forms that do not require high stomach acid for dissolution — unlike carbonate forms, which depend on an acidic gastric environment and are consequently poorly absorbed in individuals with low gastric acid output, a common finding in older adults and those using acid-suppressing medications. Citrate-bound calcium and magnesium are therefore more reliably absorbed across a broader range of individuals, and are generally better tolerated gastrointestinally than carbonate forms.

Adequate calcium intake across the lifespan supports the maintenance of normal bone mineral density, which naturally declines with age, particularly in post-menopausal women and older men due to hormonal and absorptive changes.

Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions, making it one of the most broadly important minerals in human physiology. In the context of this formula, its skeletal role is particularly relevant: magnesium is a structural component of bone matrix, and adequate magnesium status is associated with healthy bone mineral density. Magnesium also regulates parathyroid hormone secretion and the activation of vitamin D — both of which directly influence calcium absorption and bone metabolism. Beyond the skeleton, magnesium supports normal cardiac rhythm, healthy blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and muscle relaxation. It is also required for ATP synthesis, making it fundamental to cellular energy production.
The 1:1 calcium-to-magnesium ratio in this formula reflects a considered balance. Providing magnesium alongside calcium is not merely complementary — it is functionally necessary.
