Tasteless Intestinal Adsorbent Gel
Enterosgel is an intestinal adsorbent that works entirely within the digestive tract. It is not a medicine that acts on the nervous system to slow the bowel, nor is it a fibre or clay. It is a purified organosilicon hydrogel — polymethylsiloxane polyhydrate — with a porous structure that binds unwanted molecules in the gut lumen and carries them out in the stool. Nothing is absorbed into the bloodstream.
The distinction that matters: selective binding
Most people reaching for a gut binder think of activated charcoal. Charcoal is powerful, but indiscriminate — it will bind a prescription medicine as readily as a bacterial toxin. Enterosgel's pore architecture is graded to favour larger molecules, and laboratory work published in Scientific Reports demonstrated exactly this: strong adsorption of large bacterial toxins including Clostridioides difficile toxin B, Shiga toxin and bacterial endotoxin, while binding small pharmaceutical molecules such as cetirizine and amitriptyline substantially less than activated charcoal did under the same conditions.
For anyone who takes regular medication, or who wants a binder they can use for more than a day or two, that selectivity is the practical difference between Enterosgel and a generic charcoal capsule.
Backed by human trials, not just laboratory data
Enterosgel has been studied in a way very few gut binders have. The RELIEVE-IBS-D trial — a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 440 adults with diarrhoea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome, conducted across UK NHS sites — found that 37.4 per cent of participants taking Enterosgel met the primary response criterion over the eight-week blinded phase, compared with 24.3 per cent on placebo (odds ratio 1.95, 95% CI 1.28–2.99). Improvements were also recorded for stool consistency and abdominal pain. A separate randomised controlled trial examined its use in adults with acute diarrhoea in primary care.
A texture people will actually persist with
Enterosgel is tasteless and odourless. Stirred into room-temperature water, it forms a slightly opaque drink that most people find easy to take, including children and those who gag on gritty powders or struggle with large capsules. No chalkiness and no black residue on teeth.
Formulated clean
Two ingredients. No preservatives, no gluten, no dairy, no sugar, no flavours and no colourings. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Because it is not absorbed systemically, it does not add to the liver's metabolic load.
Where it fits
Enterosgel is used for the symptomatic relief of acute diarrhoea and for chronic diarrhoea associated with irritable bowel syndrome. It is also widely used as part of a structured gut protocol when a well-tolerated, non-systemic binder is needed.
Ingredients
Polymethylsiloxane polyhydrate (methylsilicic acid hydrogel) 70%, purified water 30%.
Directions for use
Stir the required dose into approximately 100 mL of room-temperature water and drink. Take two hours before or two hours after food and any oral medications.

Cautions
Do not use if you are taking modified-release or slow-release oral medications, if you have intestinal obstruction or severe constipation, or if you have a known intolerance to the product. Maintain adequate fluid intake while using Enterosgel. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist beyond two days, or if there is fever, blood in the stool or severe abdominal pain. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking prescription medication, consult your health professional before use. Always read the label and use as directed. Storage
Store between 4°C and 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Use the tube within 30 days of opening. Sachets are single-use and should be used immediately once opened.
