DHA is the most abundant omega-3 fatty acid in the brain and retina, and is structurally incorporated into neuronal membranes throughout childhood. Because the body's capacity to synthesise DHA from plant-derived precursors is limited, dietary intake matters — particularly during the rapid neurological development of the early years. The omega-3s are sourced from wild-caught anchovies and sardines — small, short-lived species that sit low on the marine food chain and naturally accumulate fewer environmental contaminants.
